It doesn't just snap over the contact rod, you have to work the rod end into it, so it really stays put. It adds enough thickness that you'll need to adjust the nail-set depth. Other than some more dent protection for softer wood and PVC trim, it also provides a lot of grip, greatly improving ability to nail at angles. For a very small price it adds a lot of value to my DIY-used 20+ year-old nailer. (Original kit did not come with this part for some reason.)
