I like this pad quite a bit. I have a Vic Firth stockpad as well which is a hard surface. The Ahead has a better sense of “give” more like a highly cranked mylar head. So it’s a little easier on the hands for longer practicing and has a nice rebound. The rim is a nice addition, but it is not very realistic in angle or shape. Still it’s nice to have something there. The snare sound is not very loud. I’d say the volume of the pad is about average. It seems pretty sturdy. Overall a good value.
